Dr Tony Famulari
Postdoctoral research associate
Tony joined the group as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in 2026. He previously completed his joint PhD under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme in Physics at the University of Zaragoza and in Chemistry and Materials Science at the University of Turin, working in the groups of Inés García Rubio and Mario Chiesa, respectively, where he applied EPR spectroscopy to study a range of biomolecular systems, including cytochrome P450, protein models, and flavoproteins.
His current research focuses on the investigation of photocatalytic mechanisms in organic semiconductor nanoparticles. In particular, he studies the electronic structure, molecular environment, and dynamics of spin states involved in solar-to-hydrogen conversion, using a combination of continuous-wave, pulsed, and transient EPR methods. This work is part of a collaboration with the group of Prof. Iain McCulloch.
Outside the lab, Tony is not as sporty as he would like to be, although he enjoys following sports as a spectator. He is an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction, with a particular interest in fantasy literature. He also enjoys listening to music, mainly Italian- and English-language pop, and is a huge Taylor Swift fan. In addition, he likes playing video games across a variety of genres, with a particular fondness for Pokémon.
